Pictures coming soon.
Photographed August 2016.
During a trip to New York City in 2016, I had the opportunity to participate in the Ellis Island Hard Hat Tour, an experience I absolutely recommend to anybody, shutterbug or not. It was an amazing experience and it truly cemented for me my place in ruin photography.
Save Ellis Island is an organization working to restore about thirty buildings across the island for future generations to enjoy as part of the United States’ unique cultural heritage. The Ellis Island Hard Hat Tour, which takes people on a ninety minute guided tour through the unrestored major hospital complex, raises funds to continue the restoration effort while educating people on the immigrant experience. I believe Save Ellis Island now offers a private, individual photography tour, but the Hard Hat experience is still amazing and full of information.
